I'm leaving Google and its amazing Doodle team to start my own little game company.
A lesson Doodles has taught me is to have some guiding principles for when you have to make decisions. This blog post
is my inadequate first stab at them:
- Be irreverent
- Energize and enrich
- No addiction for addiction sake
Be irreverent
I love parody. I love jokes that are too soon™. Life is a journey and we should trip, sigh and laugh at our
own awkwardness more often.
Energize and enrich
I love a game where I can tell the creators had as much fun making the thing as I'm having playing it. If I
can also provide something more than just pure entertainment...
No addiction for addiction sake
Games are addicting. That's fine, especially if the game is just so doggone enjoyable. But more and more
games are adding thin white lines of addiction solely as a means to make money. Granted I have to make money,
games need some friction to be fun, but I'll be looking for ways to make sure people don't feel the
ickiness of regret when I make money.
Anyways, seems like a decent start. I'll probably break all of them before my first game is even out, but
you can't be a sellout if you don't know what you're selling out from.
